道歉信用于表示歉意并请求对方宽容。社交书信中的道歉信用于因失约或其他疏忽、过失或耽搁等向他人道歉，其文体的正式程度视双方关系而定。熟人间的私人道歉信语气较随意，信文简短，有的可视为便条;因业务往来需向对方道歉时用语相对正式，语气较前者更为严肃。在实际社会交往中，道歉信需写得及时、态度要诚恳，用词需谦逊，原因要属实。
道歉信的结构框架如下：
1.向对方表示歉意或内疚;
2.说明、解释原因并提出补救办法或承担损失;
3.再次致以歉意或期望得到谅解。
